The Frankfurt Book Messe is the biggest book fair in Europe. With an ever increasing attendance it was the right time to rebrand the tradeshow as a digital destination. Together with the design studio Shift we developed together a design system that reflected the direction the FBM is heading. The system is easy to maintain and adaptive to a multitude of different user cases. The design also reflects a new generation of attendants and stays respectful to its faithfull fan base. We went right back to basics, firstly exploring the negative white space of the logo, finding many hidden surprises in the form of shapes and patterns that could be then used to create iconic and ownable forms that then became the basis of our design system.

Once we had built built the system, it was time to apply it. We were able to build all of the Ui elements across the various digital platforms. The language we had created had no boundaries and was completely device independent as everything was built modular with no adherence to a grid. All forms were built based on margins and paddings which means everything is responsive and scalable.
